Tim Burton is known for his dark and quirky films, ranging from the sweet and funny Beetlejuice to the macabre musical Sweeney Todd. Since directing his first feature (Pee-wee's Big Adventure) in 1985, he has gone on to direct and produce numerous films, many of which have won Academy Awards. The Nightmare Before Christmas, produced and co-written by Burton, used stop-motion animation in a way that had never been seen before and has been heralded as a beloved holiday movie for all ages in the years since its release.
Tim Burton's sense of dark and light, intrigue and innocence, and the struggle of those outside of society is reflected in all his work, be it films, books, or artwork. His book The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories was published in 1997. Filled with verse about strange misfits and outcasts, the gloomy yet endearing text is a mixed message of alienation, defiance, and wit. We have taken our GelaSkins images from the pages of this unusual but charming book.
